Acoustic guitar question?

What type/brand acoustic guitar would be a good gift for someone who is not a professional player, but is not a novice. Someone who definitely would know a quality guitar and really knows music. I don't want to spend a mint, but don't want to buy anything standard either. Could someone give me some advice?

Try an Ovation Applause, they are very nice, not too cheap and neither too expensive
