Women are typically seen as soft and kind and nurturing, so of course they are not viewed as violent.
Unfortunately female gangs and fights, especially in schools, is on the rise.
I feel that because women are usually far more emotional than men that they need to make even more effort to control themselves.
As for crimes, I think they get off easier in a lot of crimes, not just violent ones.
Most judges are men, and men are wired to "protect" women.
Also I think that society plays a role through media, and television programs. Women are either sensual objects, moms, or in some girly position, like secretary or teacher, or nurse. They are not in a "power" position. Even if they are, they are still usually shown as also being moms, wives, etc.
So when a woman is shown slapping a man, we are supposed to cheer because she stood up for herself!
Men, on the other hand, are typically seen in powerful positions, and so to slap a woman is just wrong.
It's a double standard, and it is still wrong.

I think has to do with balancing how the society views woman as the "weak" one. Like, in a family, the woman usually is the support system while the man is always the head of the family. And like so, people don't pay attention to what a woman does as much as a man.
I dont know, it depends on how you look at it.

Because they're docile followers to the large male figure. A pedestal that the world and nature made for some reason. In the end we each have our roles. Males are for dominance, guidance and protection, with harsh emotions. Females are for nurture, guidance of the young, and for touchy emotions. With so many positives in this world you'd think they'd be happy with their lives. But in the past it seems they'd always be looking for something to be unhappy about, constantly wanting more. More power, friends, love, attention, always something. It was never enough, even the movie stars wanted more. No they have to be treated as equals to male figures in the workplace and such, although this isn't a bad idea, they're clearly compensated in other areas of life. People have pity on them, people aspire to them and feel attracted to them. But also people want to step on them and hurt them and rape them because they feel they are inferior. It's balanced I say, just the way it is. Males are cold and alone and have to fend for themselves but they're respected. Females have all the perks but they're not so well respected. It's just the cards each stereotype seems to be given.

Yes, they get off too easy. Rape, murder, petty theft, lesbianism, they get off too easy.
Rape - Many women (and men too) think women can't rape. Not true. Having sex forced on you as a man is just as bad as having it forced upon you as a woman..except men don't have any support groups and most people don't believe them.
Murder - It's difficult for a woman to get the death sentence for murder. Just look at Aileen Waurnos, nobody believed she could do it. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aileen_Wuornos)
Petty theft - They can cry. And when they cry, people are easier on them. It just happens.
Lesbianism - Men got hanged/hung for homosexuality. Women didn't even HAVE laws TALKING about lesbianism.
