If you extensively the life of the battery goes down. I suggest you change battery and see if that works. If not there is loose connection.

Same thing happened to my laptop. The problem is with the battery and the plug on the laptop itself. If you left the power supply plugged in all the time (didn't let the battery run down before recharging) then the battery probably is on its last legs, but the other part of the problem is the plug from the power adapter is coated in plastic and if its left plugged in all the time it gets hot and guess what, the plastic melts a little. The plug itself isn't fitting correctly into the port on the laptop, eventually even fiddling around with the plug won't work anymore. My advice is to try to get everything off the laptop onto either an external hard drive or discs and then get a new laptop. The cost of a new adapter and battery is going to be pretty close to buying 3/4th of a new laptop, might as well replace it. Laptops really only last a couple of years anyways, especially if its used as a tower replacement.

I had the same problem with my Toshiba Satellite laptop. If you fiddle with the power connector while plugged into your laptop, you could damage the laptop's connector... a harder fix. The charger's connector is defective. I replaced my charger's connector and it is working fine. You have to know where to buy the connector and be able to solder it to the wire. And know which wire goes where... the positive goes to the inside connector. Negative to the outside pin. You need a volt meter. The reading should be 19volts. If your laptop is like mine... otherwise, look at the writing on the back of the charger... it will say the DC voltage.
Another approach is to go on ebay, put in the charger's part number and buy one that is new. Should be about $35 including shipping. Make sure you are dealing with a high feedback person. Watch for low feedback when buying commodity items. You could be dealing with someone using the prison's computers. It happened to me once.
Toshiba only gives a ninety day warranty. I bought my laptop at BestBuy, they couldn't help me. They tried to sell me a "universal charger" for $120.
I know, laptops are worthless with out the power charger.
If you have access to a voltmeter, you should be able to measure the charger's voltage... Intermittant computer problems are always a connector problem. This applies to cars, appliances... anything that works intermittant, it is the connectors.
Since you didn't say the battery was discharging to quickly. I think the battery is ok... It could be a connector problem on the laptop.
See how many people say they replaced the power charger. I think it is a problem of Toshiba's quality control. I've seen many internet references to this problem.
