Arrange a "hunt for presents." None of the invited guests know where the presents are, so they will have to help the birthday girl or boy find them.

As the friends are invited, the parents are contacted to let them in on the search and that the gift the birthday child is to receive must be given to the parents - or left at the home of the invitee - and then hidden by that child's parents. The parents of the invitee then write down the instructions how to locate the gift.

Examples of hiding places include taped to the underside of the coffee table; taped to the inside of a closet door; sitting on one of the ceiling fan blades (fan must not be on, of course) for something like an envelope with a check or cash; taped behind an aquarium, hanging from the ceiling of the garage, sitting in the trunk of a friend's car (these instructions would include directions to the friend's parents and asking, "do you have the key to the answer?") and the child will be handed the trunk key.

To add suspense, a clue might lead to another envelope with another clue. Clues may lead to a gift-wrapped box that contains only another set of directions to the actual gift. Directions may include going into the kitchen, eating the cake on the plates at the table, before getting another clue to the next gift. The next clue is then found under one of the plates - as the children help clear the table when they've finished.

It can be as lengthy and detailed as you have the energy for.

I'm wanting a real fun 13th B-day for my daughter. And I am thinking of taking her and a few of her friends on a "day of pampering" outing. Maybe hire a cosmotologist to teach the young ladies how to apply makeup and another to show them cute hair styles. Then off to get a manicure and pedicure. To top off the day a nice dinner out with their new "young fun look".

You didn't say if it was a boy or girl but I think it would be neat to take them and a couple of their friends to a basketball game if they are boys and maybe a concert if they are girls. Then maybe to a Holidome with lots of inside stuff to do. It may be expensive but you only turn a teenager once.
