It depends on the family. In most that I know, and I come from a community with about a third Hispanic population, children speak English and Spanish, some parents speak both as well, but many only speak Spanish and the kids translate for them. So, Spanish is used in the home in almost all families, where I come from. But different parts of America are different because different ethnicities are treated differently in different areas.

Ah! A good question. My husband speaks more English then Spanish, and both with our son. With his family, it has to be Spanish.
He gave a good example of our son being Chincano. There is no place for him here or there as numerous Americans, and Mexicans distaste chincanos. We are going to apply for dual citizenship. Both of his hertiages will be a part of him, and he will face alot of challanges.
Also, the husband says Mexico is his birthplace, but he has been here 10+ years. It's a part of him as I am. <3

I'll answer this question muself since i am from Argentina and the main language there is Spanish.
Yes, i do still speak Spanish to my mom in Spanish in my house. ( my step-dad is American and doesn't speak Spanish even though he's been with us for 7 years. )
I think everyone should speak their native tongue in their house or to whoever speaks that same language. They shouldn't forget their heritage.
I hope this helps :)

we speak both languages at home, and since spanish is my language i dont see why wouldnt I. doesnt matter how many yrs i've been here, i think we would always speak it. i have friends in my counrty were the wife is from the u.s. and they speak english all the time and she is fluent in spanish. now they have a baby, they talk in both languages because they want their baby to be bilingual, even though when he goes to school he'll learn both languages anyways.
