England. They lost territories on the continent but retained the homeland. And they bequeathed a long lasting gesture (2 fingered) as a result. (viz: 100 years war, archers when captured by French had their two fingers lopped off, new troops arrived - stuck up their two fingers to the French to say "we're going to **** you" - the rest is history)

Neither ,both England and France are seperate nations and neither one has any direct power as a result of war over the other..Also in the 19th century our 2 nations took 2 very different paths .France remained a agricultural based economy whereas Britians economy became based on industry
Two points that people on here are failing to point out
1) The Normans were not French .Normandy was an autonomous region given to the vikings after the French negotiated a deal to stop Viking raids on their nation they also had to turn there backs on Paganism and become Christians .Normans means Norse men .So not French
2) When our ancestors fought the French during the Napolionic period we were fighting as Britian not England and it was British/Irish forces that fought throughout Portugal Spain and finally Warterloo in Belgium.

i would say England because they achieved a lot more in terms of conquest, economic and cultural revolution as well as technological advancement in the ages that followed. the french on the other hand are not famous for a lot of things, they are only famous for art and fashion. a victory is not only the one you gain in a battle, its also the will and ability of the nation to maintain their strength and evolve. so i would say the English are the winners because they have done this better than not only the french but any other nation in the world. look how old they are, how long have they spread knowledge around the world for and how much have we learned from them, even the mighty USA was once taught and civilized under the laws of the great Britain which was established in England. these achievements are greater than any other. but keep in mind that the English are originally french, they came from Normandy and took England from the Saxons. Normandy is a place which the English came from in north east of France just in-case you didn't know..

Are you kidding? France and England have been enemies is why France helped us, to decrease England distant places. we aren't stupid. And we pulled France out in WWII basically to be thanked via veto threats over Iraq. We evaluate France an quite undesirable best pal in terms of loyalty, yet in lots of cases allied with us via mutual hobbies. England is particularly a lot 'the place we got here from', and that i say that with each and every root of my relatives tree having come from Germany. And England has been a chum. we would have England's back until eventually now that they had time to ask us.

I am afraid the French have never liked the fact that we won nearly all the battles ,IE Crecy , Agincour, Potiers, Waterloo ,
Boradino, nearly all the Spanish campaigns , exept for The Joan of Arc campaigns when we lost normandy, Plus we have saved there Bacon in two world wars

On balance, England. France's only arguable victory was in the Hastings invasion, and England defeated them in many more battles and wars.

We won the final battle at Waterloo but when William defeated Harold and became king he had large holdings in France which we have gradually lost over the years and all that is left is the channel islands. So although we won the last battle I think on balance we lost he war.
