Not necessarily. Criminology would be defined as crime science or the study of crimes and criminals. Criminal Justice is the application of criminal laws to the prosecution of crimes and the perpetrators thereof, in other words police work. Somewhere between those two would be criminal forensics or forensic science.
You need to decide whether you want to be a police officer, a scientist or a pshychologist.

If you have aspirations of becoming a peace officer then you want to study criminal justice. If you wish to become a forensics investigator then criminology is for you.
