Okay here's the thing, my ex owes me back child support. I have gone to the attorney general's office, and they said, and I quote, "I am really sorry miss, but because it is not worded correctly in your divorce papers, we are unable to help you."
What is up with that?? Come on.. There has to be someone or some group that will help me. With out my having to spend 1000's of dollars, to get what is owed to my daughter, not me, but my daughter.. I am a firm believer that the money goes to my daughter. If I have to use some of her money, then I pay her back.

Okay thanks for taking the time!

Divorce papers have nothing to do with child support. You need to contact your nearest Child Support Enforcement Office. (If I knew what city you were in I could tell you where to go). You need to go there and have an appointment with a case worker. They will get the ball rolling for you. Please keep in mind that a lot of Support Enforcements in each state has a different program. But most will do pretty much the same. For example you need to open up a case for back child support, but to do this it will cost you $500. If you don't pay that amount up front and the support order is granted what Support Enforcement does is that they take that money out of the first few child support payments that the father makes what ever is left over is handed over to you. This way you aren't stressing over the fact that you have to get this support order done AND on top of it having to pay for it. They take care of that for you. You should not have any problems of getting back child support. If possible you might want to find out who is the commanding officer for your ex. Also do you happen to have any type of paycheck of his that has been within the last 6 months? Where is he stationed at? Get as much of this information together that you possibly can. This will help your case worker in getting your case together and getting the child support to you as quickly as possible. Good luck to you!

Your state should have a child support collection agency (blue pages) that will help enforce your award and helpcollect arrearages. Even if the wording is incorrect in your decree, check with the dept of records for the originaldecision handed down from the divorce judge and get a copy of that. If still incorrect, petition the courts for a hearing to either correct or modify the child support. If money is an issue contact your state legal aid assoc.or for a small charge contact a paralegal which can help you totally and is cheaper then an attorney. Good luck

I used to work for Supportkids.com

They are very good at enforcing child support, the downside is they charge a fee which they will deduct from your child support payments. This is a service when you really wanna hit a dead beat dad up... because they don't mess around.

Also, the attorney general's office is supposed to be a service to help you, not turn you away. I am not quite sure what state you are in, but I worked in the legal field for some time and I cannot believe they did that. There is a such thing of modification of child support order and if you have no such thing, AG will do the work for you at no cost to you.

I don't know where your from, some of you think that if your on here we're suppose to know where your from?

We in Michigan have a "friends of court" office for problems like this. We also have the public prosecutors office that helps in these matters. Maybe some States are behind and don't care, overworked, whatever.
In Minnesota you can go to the State welfare office, my daughter did. They had an attorney from her area contact her right away, the next day he called and said it was arranged. Her Ex went to the bank and borrowed all back payments. and she started getting a check regularly. She did until my grandson was 18. I can only tell you what happen to us, I hope it helps.

Hi,
I know exactly how you feel and the system is no help in this kind of situation.
I am going through all this myself and no one will help me because my ex- works under the table somewhere and I don't have a current address on him.
It's like we have to do all the work if we want our back support payments.
I'm sorry but I hate the system and I think it stinks!!!!
Good luck getting your payments.
as far as the system goes though....don't hold your breath!!

Wow! I would push back on the attorney you had for your divorce. If the way it is worded is incorrect &/ wrong, the attorney's involved in the divorce would be held responible for it. Normally one of the attorney's writes it up.. Judge proof reads it & then signs it. I would also contact the court that you had your divorce in & advise them & ask how you can get it corrected & at who's expense.

The AG office is where you must go or to the court that granted the devorce.
You could get on AFDC and inter into the contract that He will pay that back.(which is unlawfull but the courts accept it)

Get in touch with the local recruter ,he will get you the person you need to talk to.They will take it out of his pay

this may sound low and underhanded, but to get mine I signed up for state assistance and they took my ex to court for me and got me retroactive child support for 5 years. The only other way was to get a lawyer, file new papers and take him back to court, of course I did that any way everytime he got a promotion after i got the back child support and put into a savings for my daughter who is now 15

what happen to your court order,or did you have one, child support has to be court ordered in order to get back support, you must have had agreement between you not to get this money. You need to get this into court soon as possible and let the judge decide on amount to be paid and if you have proof he hasn't paid let the judge put that amount in the order also. You may try to get a legal aid lawyer that will help you.
