My old Chevy had problems with the power window switches, but as far as dependable transportation, it was great. My mileage was low, and the best I ever squeezed out of it was 19mpg on the highway. Which isn't bad for a 350 V8. The car was totaled by my evil sister.
As far as spiffing up the car, I like those lift kits that are out these days. The over size wheels and tires with the lift kit make these old cars look slick, in my opinion. There are also light kits out as well to light up the wheel wells.
Oh oh, now I want my old Chevy back.
Good luck with your project car.

The 77 was a good car. They had a few minor electrical problems, but nothing major. The quadrajet carb was and is the best all arond 4bbl. ever made. It had the best mileage to power ratio than other carbs. That is why G M used it for so long. They are easy to work on, except for people who are all thumbs, they can't put the top back on without bending something so they blame it on the carb.

I drive a 77 Caprice. If it has a 305 or 350 engine, the timing gear on the cam is a weak point on these engines. It is aluminum with plastic teeth if it's still the original. As the teeth break off, they fall into the oil pan and get pulled into the oil pump inlet. If your tranny has METRIC stamped in the pan, it is a weak TURBO 200 trans and may cause problems. Mine had a blown TURBO 200 when I got it. I replaced it with a TURBO 350 trans.

I would recommend a dark color or more neutral color like silver or grey something with a little metallic in it makes the car seem not so large an u can even use 2 or more colors but keep it simple an clean b cause you dont want it looking to busy more flowing.

I don't know of the problems in the day but you could expect anything to happen with a car that old now, just paint it black put a cowl induction hood on it tint the windows and get a set of crager mags 10 inch rear and 8 inch front and a nice dual exhaust with flomaster mufflers and you will be riding in style.

The biggest drawback other than size is the carburetor. The quadrajet was a good carb when it worked, when it doesn't, well that's why we call them quadrafloods. Other than a paint job wheels really make a car, but don't put them ugly 20" rims. 15's to 17's will look good.

have you ever been keeping it good? Oil changes, oil, gas and air clear out changes are all favourite upkeep. next, i might hit spark plugs, and something after that, attempt to drag some codes. uncomplicated upkeep could desire to sidestep this nevertheless.
