I think your real name is unique and interesting. Michael River- nahh. Michael Swift is not bad. If you truly plan on changing it long-term, you may want to check with the Screen Actors Guild to make sure there is no one else with the name.

Your name is memorable. Keep it. Sure, Michael Swift is easier, but Michael Hermelee is something auditioners will remember, and it's unique.

Lately, actors have been keeping their own names more often and I think yours is outstanding. It is melodious and dramatic and unforgettable. I wouldn't change a syllable of it. I think your success will make Hermelee a household name someday, and I will be saying to my grandkids,"I told him way back in the day to keep that wonderful name. No I really did!"

You shouldn't change your name. Getting cast in a play has nothing to do with your name but about talent.

Kid, before you worry about your name, be sure you have talent, connections, have been in a lot of community theater, taken acting workshops and have an agent (who will ultimately have a say in what your "new" name is (chuckle, chuckle).

If you really want to change your last name, why not keep most of it, but shorten it and make it more user friendly:
Michael Melee.

Why are so many people so intent on changing who they are? Why can't we just be satisfied with what we're born with?
