Balboa Park is a must-see, just a few minutes drive from downtown San Diego & it had been ranked as one of the "Best Parks in the World." According to their brochure, it is home to 15 major museums, several performing art venues, more than 8 lovely gardens & many other cultural & recreational attractions as weel as the San Diego Zoo. It is the nation's largest urban cultural park as well as one of the most beautiful.

There are enumerated museums and cultural attractions such as:
House of Pacific Relations
(619) 234-07-39
Delighful historic cottages representing nearly 30 nations exhibit culture, traditions, history.

Reuben H. Fleet Science center
(619) 238-6203
100 + hands on exhibits, IMAX Dome Theater feature films & planetarium shows.

United Nations Building
(6190 233-5044
Houses the Elanor Roosevelt Global Classrooms & International Gift Shop.

Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater
(619) 544-92-03
A longtime San Diego tradition for children puppet performances offered throughout the year.

I had been able to live in San Diego this January to March. I had been to San Diego Zoo & Sea World. These places arent that advisable to this age groups yet. They would probably appreciate it better if they are older. I hadnt been to kiddie centers you had mentioned. I was able to take hold of this brochure.
I hope the above mentioned can help you or you probably call them up to make sure of what really is instore there for your kids.

Balboa park is a host to many things such as the zoo, the science center, the Mingei museum, Art and Natural history museums and other Hispanic cultural things. I don't know if anything there is appropriate for pre-schoolers, but I remember loving that whole area when I was very young.
