They say (he for the word his)..(they for their)..
(duh for the)..(dat for that)..(woot for would) and a host of other mispronunciations. We all grew up in the same country and I realize different parts of the country have different dialects, but blacks speak this way where ever they live or are from.

Someone has already hinted at the game being "played". But one of my Caucasian friends remarked about similar game when Hindhu's begin talking rapidly in dialectic English--invoking straight-up "Ernest Tubb"-style, Hickville, USA.

And, yes, Oprah doesn't speak in this fashion unless "joking".

Another part of this answer is that black people speak in terms of the regional dialect because that is part of assimilating into the culture. Central and SE Asians can come out with a curious Southern dialect if deposited into some Southeastern locations.

Also, there are distinct black dialects--depending on whether it is urban or rural. Urban dialect is delivered with rapid-fire and "attitude"--streetitude, while a rural dialect may have slower delivery [more drawl] and less "attitude".

I don't think the question is racist; at least you have paid some attention to another ethnic group.

**Why do black people speak the way they do? **

Ahahaha, that's a good one.

Black folks probably appear to speak like that to you, because English is more than likely not their original or natural language.
It's much like Shalom ( Isaac) and Salaam (Ishmael). They both mean peace.
We all grew up here however some were planted in sand.I would think that Shakespeare would have a problem with the English spoken in America in general.

I believe this is a honest question.
Have a pleasant day.

Thats a pretty racist generalization there. I would love to see what you are basing your opinion off of.
Are there not other races that mispronounce words? Its called SLANG or EBONICS. I'm black, and I speak just fine. Most blacks do.

P.S... you have plenty of people disagreeing with what you said. Some answers from black people too. But, instead of accepting our answers, you ask "Are people that answer my question writing like they speak the language or like it's spelled?", like you don't believe we know how to speak. You're ignorant. Maybe you live around a bunch of ignorant people like you, who do not know how to speak correctly. If thats the case, take a step out of the trailer park, housing projects, or where ever you are. There are plenty of examples of well spoken black people in the world.

wow, you pissed alot of people off but I'm not sure why. I would say its because region, friends, culture and alot of things influence how one speaks to others. Oprah and all them arent rappers. If you take your slang from what you see on a rap video from mtv your sad, go get some friends other then white people. ghetto rap trash might be like 15% of the black community. Just like white trash honky cowboys is like 15% of the white community. lol

They think it's cool to sound like uneducated fools. They cal it ebonics, but the reality is watching too much 50 cent will do that to you. Make you believe being stupid is the great.

There are however some black people who speak properly and don't buy into this rap crap.

It is a cultural thing. And there is nothing wrong with it. Why do you speak the way you do, with all your slang speech ? Why haven't you learned to speak as you were taught in elementary school and high school ? Take time to think about that.

Some black Americans speak the way they do because it is part of there culture!!!

Many Asians and Orientals speak english differnently than some Americans, only becasue of there culture, but there is nothing wrong with how they speak, I understand them with no problem whatsoever, as I do the black community!!! It is part of the culture!

Sounds like you have a genuine problem with judging other races wrongly, especially blacks!!
Remember, how you view and judge others is exactly how your will be judged by others in life, even worse !!!!! Prejudice and bitterness in one's soul(mind, will, & emotions) reveals ignorance and brings division in relationships!!!

Let's not all crush this person for not being aware of the differences in human cultures. I live in Mississippi. Do you know where that is. Black America!!! Alot of black folk live down here in the south. It's good to be different. We sit back and we laugh at individuals such as yourself because you my internet friend is what we call a "HATER". You hating on us because you want to be like us. Ebonics is universal my friend. All people use it. And don't think for one second that you wouldn't be caught slipping and talking slang and ebonically. I almost guarantee that you talk just as fluent as us black folks. And you're welcome

I don't know what to tell you other than perhaps that is their way of separating themselves from others, however at the same time I know many blacks who do not speak this way and will not tolerate their children speaking this way either. So your question is putting all blacks in the same bundle which is not fair.

Its just slang....we may talk like that with our friends and family but some of us know how to be professional when its time to be! Also who in the hell said that we say "he for the word his, they for their, duh for the, dat for that and woot for would." Where did you get that nonsense? You just made your self seem uneducated!

P.S This seems like a racist question weather you wanted it to be or not!
