Depending on his age 101.1 isn't necessarily all that high. Fever is the body's way of fighting infection. If he is less than 2 months old though I wouldn't fool with it. If he's over 6 months you could go to the pharmacy and get Tylenol suppositories. You have to ask the pharmacist for them (not a script) because they're kept in the fridge. My guess would be ears or tonsils. Possibly strep if there are older sibling(s) or daycare with older kids. If it's not come down any by morning I would definitely make a trip to a clinic or ER. Fevers have a tendency to be higher in the evening. Also, do not give him an ice bath. Outside in a diaper and t-shirt is OK or else lukewarm water sponge bath to comfort him but you don't want him chilled.

So long as he doesnt seem too uncomfortable, a fever doesn't always need to be treated. It is just a way to fight illness. Depending on where you live, you could take him outside in just a t-shirt and diaper. My kids always like popsicles. Call the Dr. if he's not better by tomorrow. He could have an ear infection which does need to be treated.

if your child is dehydrated, vomiting, diarrhea....things like that you need to take him to the er now...if there is just a fever, then keep doing what your doing.....and DO NOT GIVE ICE BATHS...this can send the childs body into shock...instead have luke warm baths to regulate the body temp......hope this helps

if the baby is under 3 months go to the er, over 3 months just watch the baby, call your ped doc. if it goes up anymore (over 103 go to the er if the baby is over 3 months)..
my sons doc always ups the dose of tylonol and motrin, ask him/her if you are giving the proper dose, my sons ped says that it is almost always the problem.

If cool baths don't drop it, I'd be going to the emergency room.

How old is he? I would call the emergency room, ask to speak to the doctor/nurse and see what they say.
