check rubber mounts for compressor

The compressor may be getting old and is stressed during use. Is the freon low? Or the compressor is loose at the base, where it is anchored to the frame. Is it staying on longer than normal to keep cool inside?
It could be as simple as your freezer is not leveled on all four contact points or not on level ground.

Goes off to where? isn't your freezer part of your refrigerator? could you clarify what your talking about.
