I was disgusted when Dennis Kucinich's office (Ohio US rep) called and was asking for donations like he doesnt have enough money already? Shouldn't the politicains be paying us to have their sign on our lawns and for their support? Yes/No

Political campaigns are expensive undertakings. They need the money to buy advertising to get votes. He could pay you to put his sign in his yard, but he hopes you'll put the sign in your yard for free plus give him $ he can use to pay for TV or radio spots. Either way, it's all about advertising.

And yes, it is a lot like buying votes. I have heard politicians speak (informally and off the record, of course) about how many dollars per vote they spent on their election campaigns. Of course, they're not literally paying people to vote for them. Rather, they're paying advertisers to persuade people to vote for them. The result is the same -- the more money your machine can rake in, the more votes you'll get.

I'm not saying it's right, and I completely understand your disgust, but that's the way it is. If you happen to live on a busy street, though, you might tell that to the next campaign representative who wants to put a sign in your yard. Tell them how big your advertising audience is, and negotiate a price.

No you are not the only one who feels this way. You are however, one of the minority who has the guts to express your displeasure.

I get sick of hearing their empty promises. Most of them seem to be brain dead. And that is a real problem because they could tell us the moon is made of cheese and 94% of the people would believe them. Republican or Democrat it makes no difference in as much a lie is a lie. Being Amoral is not confined to any specific group.

It's all voluntary. You don't have to give or have a sign or anything. If politicians were to pay people than their opposition would accuse them of buying votes.
