I am deathly afraid of needles, but i do not handle pain very well. i would like to have an epidural, but i something a little less painful could really help.

i had dulsol. it goes into your iv. and it's a narcotic, but it does not affect your baby one bit. both of my daughters were born wide eyed and ready to eat. and my pain was little to none.
because it's a narcotic, it helps you rest. i could feel all of my contractions, but i was in a light sleep, and i didn't care if i was having a bad contraction or what. lol

I am deathly afraid of needles too...and am terrible with the pain tolerance thing...The epidural during labor really isn't that bad. I felt exactly the same way u did when I was pregnant. You are able to withstand alot more than u think that you'll be able to though....also, the epidural allows you to rest up a little before you actually have the baby....I was able to take a 2 hr nap at hte hospital after my epidural and the extra bit of rest really helped ALOT...good luck!

When you are in that much pain you do not feel the epidural, you just want it. I did natural child birth once and never again. I would rather have natural dentistry than go through that again. One other thing to remember, this is your one chance to be noticed, so scream your freaking head off, even if you have the epidural. You really won't be in pain, but it makes for great stories later when you talk about the agony of child birth and how the babies head was so big that they had to use the jaws of life to get the baby out. Good luck and don't worry. It will all be o.k.

If you get a good doctor, an epidural takes less than 2 minutes to complete. It's really not painful at all (based on my experience), just a little uncomfortable. Just think, would you rather have a couple minutes of uncomfortableness or hours of painful contractions? Just a personal opinion from someone who has been in the same situation! Good luck!

Honey that Epidural is a walk in the park compared to them contractions you starring down the barrel of!!. Don't stress yourself out thinking about needles. Focus on giving birth to a healthy baby. Needles are the least of your worries, your bringing a baby into this crazy world, with Bush in office!! Now is you wanna be worried, worry about our Troops in Iraq until God knows when!!

I've had 3 epidurals, the sensation of the needle is so not worth all the grief your putting yourself thru, it's a pinch that last less than a mili second!!

Good luck, and stop stressing!

I'm sorry to tell you, but there is nothing to do for the pain if you choose not to get a needle, you could get meds through your I.V. but they will make you super sleepy and there are good chances baby won't want to nurse for hours b/c of the drugs. My mother told me to accept it, IT WILL BE THE MOST PAINFUL EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIFE. Once you accept it your body will follow and you wont panic, panicking will only increase tension and prolong your labor. Good Luck

Demerol is what I had when I gave birth and it eased the pain good enough that all I really felt was my daughter crowning. I was pretty much in and out of consciousness during the labor. I only woke up when I had a contraction!

i dont like needles either but the pain of labor is so bad you will want the epidural, it doesn't hurt really i didnt feel it at all. i would defanitly recomend that, but if it is not an option i would look into water birth or hypnobirthing

for one, you are in so much pain with contractions, that you dont even feel the needle. when they put mine in, I didnt even realize it until they were already done and taping my back.

but regardless, you will have to have an IV anyway, and thats a needle. so yeah. you wont even notice the pain of a needle, cuz the contractions hurt so much more

During the days before epidural they gave laughing gas, I don't know if they still do that. Otherwise try to concentrate on your breathing, you would have benefited from taking classes and then you just have to grin and bear it.
