It's my roommates cat but the dog was here first. The cat was raised around small dogs, mine is big. The dog was raised with a cat. We had to put him down. My roommates cat came not long after. The dog is just roams the house when the cat will attack her and by that she literally jumps on top of the dog. She is NOT playing!!! The dog either does absolutly nothing or barks. The dog thinks the cat is playing because that is how the other cat played with her. Giving one away is NOT an option!!! We've tried putting the cat in a carrier so she can get used to the dog and we thought it was working because she hasn't been yowling or attacking her the last 3 days but she attacked her today. What can we do? It's not fair that my dog should have to be outside all the time or that we should lock the cat in a room. Any suggestions would be helpful. It seems that the cat is trying to protect me and/or my roommate from the dog. Other details the cat is a year old and the dog is about 10 months old.

We put a baby gate up in front of my roomates room so if the cat so chooses she can go in there and the dog can't get in. But just now my dog was coming out of my room and the cat was in my roomates and she jump on the gate and started screaming at her. My roommate always cuddles the cat when she attacks and tries to calm her down. When she does that my dog get's all excited and wants to play but I usually put the dog outside. I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do.

It doesn't sound like a big deal is the cat declawed? I would put them into a small room together(let them both go the bathroom first)and I think the cat will calm down if forced to be in a small room with the dog alone for like 6 hrs or so.

I have a 70 pound dog and a 7 pound cat. They actually like each other. The cat "face-marks" the dog all the time. They play a lot, and seem to communicate on some level. Alpha male dogs have some dominance issues, so if they are not getting along, it's best to keep them apart as much as possible.

maybe just maybe something happened between the 2 that neither of u witnessed and the cat is just making sure she keeps the upper hand and making sure the dog knows who is boss. perhaps putting the cat in the carrier every few days is the answer. u said she behaved for a few days and then started up again. try the carrier again. maybe the dog doesn't really care if the cat attacks her and enjoys the attention no matter what i\form it comes in. good luck

I dont know what to say they should be fine if they can both have htere own territory, like have that cat not allowed in one room so the dog can go and the cat cant get her and vice versa. Try those pet doors with the collars so it unlocks only when the collar is around

If the dog was feeling threatened it could defend its self im sure. Unless its a teacup or miniture of some kind. Give it about another 6 months and you may have a dead cat on your hands. But usually they learn to chill.

i think as long as the dog's not bothered, they should be ok. i mean, dogs have their own way of protecting themselves if they get really bothered by other animals. your dog just probably enjoys playing rough with the cat, and even if the cat isn't playing, your dog still probably thinks of it as playing and will tell the cat to stop just like he told his doggie siblings when he was a young puppy.

get one of the spritz bottles that we use at the beach. put water in the bottle and keep it ready for when the cat jumps on the dosgs back.
Cats hate water so that should help her realize that you do not want that kind of behavior. No snimsl gets hurt and none are out side.
