I know you are worried but 101.1 is not that bad. Just give him fever reducer as directed and keep him hydrated with water and pedialyte. Alot of people become very panicky about fevers esp mothers with young children, which, is understandable but fevers are beneficial. A fever is the bodies natural defense against a parasite or bug(infection). Infections cannot live in increased body temperatures, therefore your temperature rises to kill the virus, infection, etc. Just keep him out of drafts cause you do not want him to catch a chill, he will be OK just keep an eye on him and if his fever contiues to rise and he acts lithargic then take him to the emergency room.

if you've given Motrin (ibuprofen) and it isn't reducing the fever in 30 minutes, give him the age/weight appropriate dose of Children's?Infant's Tylenol (acetaminophen). They are both fever reducers, but effect the body in different ways, so they can be overlapped - but only if they are already safe for the baby, and only when necessary.

Also give plenty of fluids and a lukewarm (NOT hot) bath. If the fever still hasn't gone down in another 30 minutes, call the pediatrician or go to the Emergency Room or 24 hour clinic.

Alternate motrin with tylenol. Also, cool(not ice cold) wet wash cloths applied to his wrists, neck, places where his arteries run close to the skin. It will cool the blood down which will help bring over all temp down.

An earlier answerer stated motrin is aspirin based. Well, no it's not. Motrin is ibuprofen. I've been a nurse for 13 years. Mixing them will not cause liver damage either, well, at least not for a fever issue, but yes, long term use can lead to side effects.

You can give him his reg dose of motrin then 2 or 3 hrs probably 2 hrs give a reg dose of childrens Tylonal then 2 hrs later motrin, My child would have 104.1 105. when he was that age I had rushed him to emerg. room and his ped. and even when I was at my moms out of state she was a RN for 30 years and had 3 kids in less then a year twins were born 3 days before my brother was one, she ran huge nursing homes later and she had worked in delivery room but when he was there and she saw him herself she was grabbing him and rushing us to hospital, 106. is brain damage, well after that they said to give him both but 2 hrs apart Motrin first wait 2 hrs later then Tylonal then 2 or 3 hrs later motrin they are not the same medicine so they can be used but in the correct way, Ive done this now for 12 years when necessary, he would get so hot so quick not all the time, but after i did this a few times I never had problems with keeping his fevor at bay. Good luck, talk to your Pediatrian, You just dont want the fevor to spike

Get off the internet and call a pediatrician. If you are so concened about your childs temperature that you have posted 3 different times asking the same question in different ways, call someone who has gone to school for this sort of thing and stop relying on the opinions of others.

Wrap his calfs with cold wet towels and repeat. Try Children's Tylenol instead, it's much better for children, as Motrin is Aspirin based.
Do not mix Motrin and Tylenol. Can be damaging to the liver.
