How can i shorten songs to put them on phone as ringtones? Can i use windows media player to do that? How?

I have a bunch of songs that i want to use as ringtones but when i try to put them on the phone it keeps saying the file is to long and needs to be cut down to at least 30 seconds. How do I do this?
Please don't just say something like "use your music player" I need to now HOW to use it and what buttons to click.

If it helps any I have a Sprint PCS KATANA phone.
