Be honest with him, and tell him that really annoies you.
There two key things in a relationship honesty and caring for one another. If he does not try to change after you been honest with him, then you should start giving yourself some respect. But do not dumb him, this world is full of oportunities, if you do not give him more oportunities, then someone else will. Be wise, and take good care of what is to be yours.

U need to talk to him, dont just jump to conclusions about anything just yet. Tell him how it bothers u and how would he like it if u kept bringing up your ex. just sit down and have a long talk with him, if he gets all defensive and angry then u know he is hiding some feelings for her. If he loves u he will understand and will not bring her up anymore. Good Luck!

What context does he speak about her!!?
not that it matters really but it can give u some light on what his thinking when he talking about her!!
If u guys have been together for 6yrs u should be able to ask him or tell him ur not comfy with his ex gf speak!!!

Ask your boyfriend why he's always talking about his ex-girlfriend. Ask your boyfriend if with her is where he really feels he needs or he wants to be. Communicate honestly to your boyfriend how his references of his ex-girlfriend really make you feel. Ask your boyfriend if he cares about what you express feeling when he does talk about the ex-girlfriend.

If he is saying nice things he might still be in love with her. If he is talking trash he may really hate her. Ask him flat out.
