LMAO. He's not even in the top 100 bald dead men who made horrible sounds and was over rated and a thug with no morals category.

ok let's think about it...
here's a guy whose born into poverty, beset on all sides by a harsh cycle of crime and poverty.
So he tells people about it. He lives his life as a product of his environment, he reflectes his ancestry and the envorinment he was brought up in.
Many people don't know that he was born Lesane Parish Crooks
arguably the greatest most politically aware and socially active rapper of all time.
He was born in New York to Afeni Shakur, who was a member of the Black Panther Party. She was pregnant with him while in jail on bombing charges. Both his biological father and the man he looked up to as a father figure were equally dedicated to improving the black community and were high ranking and active members of the black movement.
Tupac Amaru comes from the Incas meaning "shining serpent" and Shakur is Arabic meaning "thankful to God." and it is the Black Panthers to whom we should be grateful for giving him this name.
He went to arts school in Baltimore (Nina Simone is another artist who was politically active and had a base there, even to the point of naming an album of hers after the place)
So from an early age he was empathetic, sympathetic and politically active you can see this in the fact that his first MC name, for example, was MC New York.
The Shakur Estate and Leila Steinberg publish the Poem book in 1999 "The Rose That Grew From Concrete". It's about 71 poems written by Tupac from 1989 to 1991, before he started rapping in the industry. This Book is worth reading.
** he's not alive btw - sorry you didn't ge the memo, he's been dead over five years now, but you can be excused for not noticing; he's more active in the charts than many live artists, because many of those haven't produced as many albums as he has posthumously! **
2pac Tupac Shakur died about 5 or 6 years ago now. His name hasn't dipped below the top 50 most searched items on the internet. He touched a cord in people's minds through the issues he talked about, and how he did it.
Any old thug does not do charity they have no money to donate and some of those that do have mixed up priorities. Any old thug is not a graduate from anywhere, he does not wax political or reminice about depraved kids or drunk mothers or the jobless state of a lot of Americans. And if they are, now listen to how they do it: notably 50cent and many many (almost any) other less big time rappers out there. Rap was originally a political tool when it came out of africa and for some years through slavery. It's abuse for personal gain and frivilous subject matter is a relatively recent thing which tupac himself was also arguably guilty of. But are you going to blame a man for being what society made him and not understand where he's coming from? Why be surprised then when nothing happens, and the same people continue suffering? Only now they don't have a tupac to speak for them the same way. Only George Bush and he's a poor substitute for anything including animals and inanimate objects.
There are schools that study tupac's work along with Shakespeare (in and out of america) Tupac isn't going anywhere. Tupac is growing everywhere. There's no escaping it. Every matatu (african coach) either blares out his music or has his picture spray paited on it, people regurgitate his lryics like they do his style even if they barely know any other English & thats just africa. The other continents are all involved too!
He is was and will be one of the greatest influences in the music and clothes industry, the information of society through hip hop, in youth culture and adult society alike.

First of all, he's no longer "alive" so the question wouldn't apply to him. And second, when he was alive, I wouldn't have considered him to be one of the top 100 greatest men. Of all the people in the world, Tupac would not be anywhere near that list. I understand that there are a lot of people who admired him (for reasons unknown to me). But he was a violent man...both in reality and in his music. There's nothing "great" about that.

No. There are a few men that I could think of before 2Pac, may his "Black Prince" soul rest in peace. His killing was to me, a stone waste of a very talented poet, rapper, musician.

the greatest man no maybe to his family but he was very intelligent articulate and wise beyond his years if you are a real fan and know his history then you might know what I'm talking about . anyway the media focused more on what he did wrong than what he did good the media did not mention that he donated money to the united ***** college fund nor did they mention his donations to aids foundations all they seen was his "thug mentality " a rapist and another dumb black man who made money because he could rap and a lot of its just stereotypical BS also " I did not create THUG Life i just diagnosed it" Vibe 1995

maybe in the eyes of hip hop he will be at the top.. as far as the world.. I'm not sure about that one.. In my book i would put him in the 100 greatest men because he was an innovator. He took chances and changed the rap game.
