I've just started biking.. and my helmet looks really big on my body, I'm not big.. 5'8. So.. do the external dimensions of helmets vary? would a more expensive helmet made from more sophisticated materials be smaller in external dimensions? or are they much the same?

Helmets do vary in external dimensions according to brand, though it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with quality.

If you're looking for something smaller, check out Scorpion helmets, they seem to be a little slimmer than some others.

I personally have found that they are the same. Perhaps ask a sales person to show you a different brand instead of a different helmet from the same brand.

If you got an open faced helmet and ride a Harley you can look cool & stupid at the same time by taking the lining out from the inside to make it look smaller, becoming popular in Australia.

Remeber Stay Upright 'cause a good rider is one that lives to ride another day:)
