To become a pharmacist, it will require a minimum of 6 years of college study. Acceptance rates at colleges pharmacy are very low. The average is about 1 in 8. The two years of prereqs require you to take very rigorous science courses Upon graduation, you will receive a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
You can work in all kinds of environments from retail to hospital to managed care to industry. Pharmacists can be found in every facet of health care from presidents of Walgreens to working in your local hospital.
The type of work you do does depend on where you work. In retail (community), you will be verifying medications, counseling patients on their prescriptions, advising on OTCs, etc.
To become a registered pharmacist, you'll have to pass two licensing exams. You have to be registered to practice pharmacy.
The career is expecting large growth in the coming 20 years. It is believed that pharmacist prescribing will become a bigger force.

You study at a school of pharmacy - and obtain either an associates degree or a bachelors. then you take your state's pharmacist examination to gain the designation RPh [Registered Pharmacist].

There usually is a background criminal history check involved - if you have a history of drug abuse, look for another career. If you have convictions for crimes involving moral turpitude, also look for another career.

You will need a background in chemistry and basic math to get into pharmacy school.

Some pharmacists actually are very involved in diagnosis - however, most work in pharmacies and fill prescriptions. The hours usually are regular and the pay is decent.

Almost every large grocery store and "big box" store [Walmart, Costco, Sam's, etc.] has a pharmacy. There are chains of pharmacies - CVS is the giant in the USA. Also, mail order companies that dispense pharmaceuticals hire pharmacists.

A Pharmacist is someone who has a collage degree in Pharmacy and who has passed a national exam.

They work everywhere that drugs are dispensed from Hospitals to drug stores.

Some Pharmacist with advanced degrees do research.

It is inside work - the pay is medium - You must be very careful and meticulous in your work.

Most Pharmacists work for someone else but some have their own drug stores.

There is a high risk or Drug abuse just as their is in most medical fields. That is the most common cause of Pharmacists losing their licenses
