I hope you're not *too* surprised, that people skim headings w/o reading the full text. In a world full of lots of redundant info, it's a fairly effective strategy. Imagine somebody who looks carefully at each dollar bill they get to check for counterfeits, and who reads all the print on the parking meter even on a Sat. night, and who doesn't go on to the second part of a newspaper before finishing all of the first. They're not going to accomplish a whole lot, in a day.

And, you did deliberately choose a question which is obvious to most people, but not quite to all of them; answerers are well-spirited in helping others [and getting points] w/ a limited amount of time in their lives.

On the other hand, I'm sympathetic to your point that before *answering* a question in a public forum, you'd hope people would at least skim the details of the question.

No, it's a scam, when they send it to you they usually want you to send them a certain amout of money back, but what you find out later is that the check you recieve is HOT as fire crackers on the 4th of July.

Wanda's right; it's a scam.

By the way, there's an interesting site you should check out--
http://www.datingnmore.com/fraud/scam_email3.htm. Your "Nigerian widow" might be on there somewhere. It has all sorts of good information to prevent being victimized; I even caught a scammer using it once.

I'm paying attention but frankly I think people are just so sick of reading the drivel posted by fools who think this and the "international lottery" or whatever are real.

It is called "The Nigerian Scam". Every e-mail on the Internet has received a version, or another. Report it, or ignore it
