one other problem is in australia we have toimport the rods then transport them across land (rail or road), how can that be done safely

We in Greece as a Nation are against,although we have Uranium fields.Nuclear power must be used later.There is too much oil
undiscovered.The Aegean sea is full of oil like Saudi Arabia .The Koshlodui case was a human disaster,we cannot afford another one,and unstable nations use the nuclear power as an excuse to make nuclear bombs

We need more of it. Coal produces tons of air pollution and tons of ash that must be landfilled. Gas is costly , the price jumps up unexpectedly. Burning fossil fuels adds to global warming. The public seems afraid of atomic power but consider the benefits-No air pollution and unlimited supply of fuel. The amount of leftover spent fuel waste is tiny by comparison. The demand for power continues to skyrocket.

It is the cleanest and cheapest type of power we can generate with current technology at present.
What to do with the waste is a major problem, maybe use a rocket and send it to the sun??

I think Nuclear power is spectacular, it's just not the most conducive to proper growth of organic organisms. All of that power in the smallest little things, atoms. Spectacular.
