Good little bike. If it is clean, and low miles. Optimum mileage is around 40-50000. However most of the intermediate size bike are going to be under 20 thousand miles. This was an upgraded model of some of the earlier Yamaha 4 cycle , two cylinder street bikes. Adequate power for a on up bike, or occasional around town two up. Good beginner bike. Value $300-$800 depending on condition. A real cherry, low mileage model with 80 plus rubber, a good battery, great paint, good chain, and upholstery, again around $800. Gas mileage around 45-55 mpg. If it needs parts be sure to check with a reputable Yamaha dealer, or check online. Good Luck

You can probably find entire examples of them at motorcycle wrecking yards, and pilfer them for parts. New parts may no longer be available simply because there is no market for them. Few owners would be willing to pay for new parts when the completed bike would be worth under $1,000. You may be looking at an expensive job here. No doubt, the battery is toast, the carbs need a complete refurbishing, the tires are too old to be safe, all sorts of parts have cosmetic damage, and the gas tank is probably terminally rusty. Every rubber part is also suspect. And I haven't even mentioned the electrical system... You would be better off buying the best running example that you can find. It will be way cheaper than trying to resurrect this one, as sitting around unused is very hard on motorcycles. "Sentimental value" can get really expensive. You need to look at this objectively.

It's a great bike . The XS line was very solidly built. I had one for 24 years before I sold it.
