Try the "phone shops", they have phone booths inside. You just use the phone, call as you like and pay when you're done. There's a timer on the phone so you can see how much it is/how long you are.
They are really good, especially for international calls!
I used to live in Lanzarote.

Buy one when you get there. Cheaper and use a call box not the hotel phone. Cards are 10,20,50 Euros

If you have a BT landline, speak to BT about a chargecard. You will be able to make phonecalls from anywhere in the world and it will be charged to your home phone.
