If you were in the military, especially with a combat MOS, you would know that many are just average kids from mostly middle class and below. Many in the past joined for the benefits and to simply have a job...I'm not saying there aren't college educated kids in combat positions, but I am saying 1/3 aren't there because they have a inner drive to serve their motherland...maybe 1/3 for macho bragging rights of an 18 yr old, and the other 1/3 really believe they are serving their country...the reality is that any reason that gets you there makes you one...the differences disappear...they become just soldiers living together and protecting each other...the main theme is getting through it for most.

But you can't deny that civilians and this case civilians that never served have crafted this exercise in Iraq...Developing military defence is smart, War is stupid. The USA should never be in an avoidable, causual war

Define "family member."

By the way, we've got an all volunteer military. I served in it from 1975 until 1997. Not once, imagine that, not once was my mother or father consulted about my enlistment or numerous re-enlistments. Imagine that.

Because 3d funny farms, its a volunteer Army, not a draft Army, anyone can choose to join, or not too join. Theres nothing saying they have to go in. Is there a distiguished list of liberal congress kids that have joined I'm not aware of? Trying to even some unknown playing field are ya?

Probably because
a) most of their children opted for college as opposed to the military
b) some of them are so old and have been in office so long that their children are past military age
c) "do as I say, not as I do" is probably a secret Congressional mantra

Simple, the poor and middle class have to do the fighting for the rich and powerful. This is why we have to reconstitute the draft.if their children suffer too they would be more careful fighting all these adventurous wars
