It may be low on water or have an air pocket if all the air was not bled out of the system when you changed the pump. Does the heater blow warm air?

The thermostat is a value that opens and closes by means of a bimetallic actuator (a piece of metal that "moves" when its temperature changes). Over time thermostats tend to fail and that is most likely what has happened here. Telltale sign is that the hoses are cool which means that the thermostat has failed in the closed position and is not allowing coolant to circulate.

The thermostat is often mounted in a fitting on the engine block. The part itself is inexpensive - $25 or so, however changing it requires draining the entire cooling system, replacing the part and then refilling. None of that is difficult but be mindful not to allow air to enter the system when you refill the coolant because this will dramatically reduce the cooling properties and may cause overheating in the summertime, even though the thermostat is fine.

There are a couple things it could be:
Thermostat gone bad or not enough coolant. Also, maybe your radiator isn't working properly?

I'd try flushing the coolant system, running a mix of 70% coolant with 30% water, and replacing the thermostat. See if that helps, and if not, take it to a specialist.

Try replacing the temperature sender.

Also if the thermostat is faulty and not opening, there is no water flow and the temp in the radiator is quite cool whilst the engine is boiling its way to destruction.

thermostat might be broken. it's a valve that's supposed to open/close and sometimes they get stuck shut. years ago my dad helped me replace mine on an 89 cavalier and it cost about 20 bucks at an auto parts place, and it took less than an hour, you just gotta find someone who knows how to do it. I only remember it was on a hose coming off the radiator, it was a long time ago, sorry :(

Disconnect your battery and let the car set for about 5 minutes. Then reconnect. If that doesn't help, you may have a faulty temperature sensor. Are your guage could be going bad.But just change your temp sensor.

i might say that your radiator is getting stopped up, as youchronic the quicker the water is going by the cooling equipment, and needs to pass relatively, and eveything can tension ck ok yet at velocity, the fan stops and in basic terms the air flowing by cools the engine, if the radiator slows the pass it is going to slowly enhance temp.

no, this is an engine temp. gauge. it means you need oil!!!

check the oil, pull out the oil stick, whipe it off with a dry clean cloth, put it back in all the way, and take it back out, and see where the oil reaches. there are levels on the stick that will tell you if you need oil. this is important!

i would do it RIGHT NOW
