I'm 21 weeks pregnant, I went to labor and delivery over the weekend with the stomach bug, they checked my urine and said I might have an infection, they did a culture and it came back negative and sent me home, my question is what could have caused my urine to show positive for infection but culture to be negative, Thanks

I will call and as my regular OB Monday just wondering if this has happened to you guys before

Usually your urine will look infected or have traces of bacteria if u dont wipe well before urinating. U have to use the wet wipes they give u really well down there from front to back real good in order for nothing to show up. U can have traces of feces or bacteria from your vagina get into the urine sample if not wiped proerly,so thats probably what it was.The culture would come out clean also because they are taking a direct swab to the area. Good Luck!

It would seem to me if they believed there could be an infection but did the lab work that showed there wasn't - then there wasn't an infection.

Maybe the urine didn't show up anything in particular, and maybe they just checked for an infection because of other symptoms you had.

Very often if people show up with certain symptoms the urine will be checked for infection. Urinary tract infections are more common in pregnancy, so it was probably the standard thing to look for.

Just some extra protiens that are spilling into your urine. That used to happen to me all the time. Everything is going to be ok. You had a miscarriage before? I remember you from a while ago. This is absolutely no indication of a miscarriage. Ask your nurse, midwife or OBGyn about the extra protiens. It usually means your kidneys are getting overworked. Drink lots and lots of water. I hope this helps. In the meantime just relax. Sending hugs and prayers.
