Because the world is a soap opera playing out before our eyes. Those who want a steamy "Til next time'..will create a steamy "Til next time"..those who understand the true prospect of love and compassion...will create that instead.. Such a wonderful gesture!!! Tell the office people to go home before noon and take out their animosity on the t.v. colleagues. Best wishes to the surgery survivor as well as the compassionate male.

People normally think in stereotypes, not because they are stupid or do not want to think but because this makes life easier. Nobody has got the time to analyze every situation one comes across, so when we see for example a man bringing a woman flowers we interpret this situation based on our experience. Our experience tells us that when a man brings a woman flowers he wants to get to know her "closer". Of course this doesn't have to be the case but 9 times out of 10 it will be. So thinking in stereotypes makes life easier 90% of the time, because we do not waste time and energy on analyzing situations that could have been interpreted by a "best guess". But this "shortcutting" comes at a cost. In 10% of the cases we misjudge a situation, they way I think it happened at your office.
(Note: the figures I give here are not based on any scientific sources but shall simply illustrate my argument. They can therefore not be considered to be precise in any way)

Because they have nothing more interesting going on in their lives apart from gossiping about others. The guy was probably just being nice.
And if they are seeing each other, so what? Nobodies business but their own

For exactly the same reason that you care about what they think.
People in general don't mind their own business.
That's why we're all here, indulging in this question and answer game with each other.
