Look at their websites. That will give you an Idea of the support available. We have a Compaq (now owned by HP). I love their website for service and buying parts. My personal prejudice, based solely on emotion is that Toshiba is the greatest electronics manufacturer in the world. What you really need to consider though is value and durability. By the unit that will take the most abuse and has the most ram, HD space etc. I saw a 2gig ram computer in the ads in the Sunday paper for around $1500, unheard of. That put this unit $500 below the average price for that much power. I can't remember the brand exactly, but it was a pretty good one if I remember. Remember, updates on Notebooks are costly and tedious. Bite the bullet and "future proof, by getting the best unit you can afford.

STAY AWAY FROM GATEWAY AT ALL COSTS. STick with windows, and dell is the best. Dell lattitude D410 is a fantastic choice, along with the versions of inspiron are great choices.

Good luck, and kudos for doing your research in advanced!

I would say that Dell and HP are the best at the moment.

The prices are good to as compared to the services they offer. So I think you should look for HP or Dell.

I have an HP Pavillion and an iBook -- I hate the Mac, and LOVE my HP. It is quick and handles graphics really well. The battery lasts a long time, and the screen is big.
