The minute a hen crosses the road it is a chicken.
A hen is a female chicken, so it is a chicken by species, and a hen by gender.

A hen is a chicken!! Mummy and daddy should have told you that there are daddy chickens called cocks and mummy chickens called hens. The little babies that come out of the eggs are called chicks until they grow up to become hens or cocks. Hope that helps.

Chicken is the genderless term. A hen is the female chicken, the rooster (or ****) is the male.

Its a poult/chick until it's first egg, where it becomes a hen, or it's first crow, where it becomes a cockerel. But if you are talking about the chickens in general then they are chickens.
