being a swimmer, running about a mile 3 times a week builds up your endurance, working out with wieghts helps you make your muscles in shape so that it does not feel like your going to did, swim at least 45 minutes 3 times a week, and doing pyramids which build you endurance up and your breathing capacity up, streaching is the key before you swim so you will not tear any muscles...it sucks if you strain your muscles for swimming because it will hurt so bad you probally will not be able to swim.

This may sound simplistic, but the answer is "Swimming".
Think about it. You will be using all the muscles you will need to be a swimmer. You will be breathing as a swimmer needs to. etc.

I may be going out on a limb here, but you might try swimming laps.

the best way is to do lots of pushups and crunches and then practice, practice, practice and do more pushups, and repeat! lol. but it really works, you can even do stretches with a stretch cord and that will help.
