I was at the Starbucks Shop located within the Red Lion Hotel in Elko Nevada on Sunday October 15, 2006 at 3:45 pm, where I orderd a grande size green tea. I gave my Starbucks credit card for payment. I know that the last time I had used the card it had a little over a $21.00 dollar balance. The female clerk taking my order and card fidgeted with the credit card computer which was a separate device from the computer cash register. The tea cost was a $1.81. I asked for a receipt which indicated I only had a $3.99 balaance. I did not have the previous receipt so had no evidence to present with which to argue with the clerk about my drastically redeced balance. I believe she deliberately shortchanged me but how it could benefit her, I have no explanation as I am not versed in how that may have been accomplished.. I am only bring this to the attention of the Starbucks Corporation in the event this is happening elsewhere and they may stop it before we, as consumers, loose confidence .

Here is a link to the Terms of Service for Starbucks cards:
http://www.starbucks.com/customer/card_terms.asp

In short, call 1-800 STARBUC and they can aid you in rectifying the situation if reported within 60 days. Most franchise stores do not even accept Starbucks cards, so how the system is separate from the register, I cannot tell you. When it is combined though, there is no way to overcharge unless you charge for multiple items, and that would be shown on your receipt. And no, there would be no benefit to her.

For future concerns, it is recommended to register any Starbucks card you have. It makes it easier for them to find your information (I'm actually unsure if they can see previous transactions without having been registered), and you can track your account balance online.

If this was an older card, until 2003 Starbucks took out $2/month after 12 months of disuse.

To bump an old thread...there is a Starbucks franchise run by Catelink in a college I go to and they claim it is the same as Starbucks but a little cheaper. The beans and coffee machine are yes and also the cows milk they use for lattes, but the soya milk they use is not the same as any other retailer (Starbucks or not) as they use unsweetened soya milk - which is horrible with coffee but the woman who runs the place says she doesn't drink soya milk so she basically has no idea what to buy. I tried to tell her that I have never seen any store on the high street with unsweetened soya milk and she told me that she may consider buying the sweetened but it's nice to have a selection. If it was so nice then every other store would offer unsweetened soya as well as perhaps rice and nut milks but none of them do.

Considering she has never even drunk a coffee with unsweetened and sweetened soya milk to see the difference then she is a poorly trained barista as they should know what they are serving! I can guarantee you that as soon as she tries the unsweetened, she will retch and only like the sweetened. Caramel Macchiato is really not the same as the one you buy in a real Starbucks store!

I don't know if I can complain to Starbucks about this franchise as it is not serving their drinks as they are sold everywhere but it is not a traditional store just a college cafe.

there should be an 800# on the back of the card, they may have a record of what was deducted and when from that card. Also, call the franchise location and speak with a manager and explain what happened. They will have some suggestions for you. Since it was a franchise I didn't know they took the starbucks gift cards, so maybe that was part of the problem?

michael, for years I have been going to the greenlake starbucks. I stopped because of the ridiculous turn over there and the hassle of working with new people nearly every month...My biggest complaint is the fact that Erica (manager) has some one every five minutes sweeping the floors, like they are obsessed with the floor being immaculate. It is very annoying because constantly the sweepers bang the broom against the plastic dust pan while they sweep. They will reach with their brooms under our feet, under our table, while banging the broom against our chair and table which is extremely annoying and very distracting!! Even when the floor is full of customers they will sweep under, around us, making us move .out of their way. In my opinion they are rude by doing this. The biggest thing I have a problem with is every time they sweep every five minutes it kicks up dust that will rise up to 4 to 5 feet in the air. So, while I'm there at greenlake I'm constanlny having to breath this air that is full of germs, dust mites, and pollen. I'm not the only one that has complained about this obsessive sweeping. It makes it very uncomfortable to be there and it is not necessary to sweep the floor every five minutes. They should focus on the clients instead and keep the table tops cleaner and maybe eve n take time to converse with the clients instead of sweeping constantly. I have been to many, many starbucks in Seattle and I have never seen the staff come out and sweep every five minutes. Only once and a while will they sweep their floors. If I get up to go to the bathroom my chair is put back in its place, like this is crazy behavior. Please make it stop so I can return and enjoy myself there. At the moment I now frequent starbucks a on Queen Anne Hill on Boston ave. I have seen the staff once come out and sweep the floors ans when they do they stay away from under our chairs and our tables, only sweep where the traffic comes and goes. This makes it much more pleasant to be there instead of greenlake. Even though I'm complaining about this, from my experience it will make no difference to starbucks, or to the staff (manager) at greenlake. I will be happy when Eriica leaves the store and relocates somewhere else. She is totally obsessed!!! and over board with her obsession. Before she arrived it was not like that and was much more comfortable being there.
