A necklace is an "it".
When conjugating the verb "to be" this is what happens:

I am (1st person)
You are (2nd person)
He, she or it is (3rd person)

Well, usually stories are told in the third person because then we have the voice of an impartial narrator. First person would be, "I went to the store..." it would all be the main character's perspective.

Because third person is written as "he did this." Whereas first is "I did this".
