In italian law, it's forbidden to name a child after same sex parent.
When someone wants to do it (an uncommon, but not rare custom), he adds Maria as second name, also (or only) for male child.
Ex: father: Antonio; son: Antonio Maria.
As a more common usage, in Italy childs are named after their grandparents

I'm Indonesian. I think it's more common for grandparents to name their grandchildren rather than parents naming their children after their grandparents.

I'm in the USA. Some people name their kids after the parents, mainly the father, but it's not custom.

Yes I know my family roots and my children are named after their grandparents and other common family names we use.

i'm from the USA and from a hispanic background. yes, we have that custom. if not after our parents, then grandparents....or at least a family name.
