I went into labor almost 3 weeks ago and they gave me procardia to stop contractions. I started having contractions again 4 days later and they upped the medication, but it was affecting me very badly. I have now quit taking it, but am not having any contractions at all. Will the medication I took affect the time I will start having contractions again? I am very miserable and am not getting maternity pay due to not being on my job but for 2 months. Any suggestions on what to do to start the contractions up again?

The medicine helped your body get back to what it was doing. Your contractions will happen when they happen. My doc had told me that I was going to go into labor during the weekend, and I had not had any contractions. I took long walks, I ate spicy mexican, thai, and indian foods. I ate tons of citrus including pineapple. I'm pretty sure I bruised my prro husband because I heard that sex helped. I even drank castor oil! (EWWW) I ended up being induced. I say to just lay back, surround yourself with pillows, and sleep. That's going to be a luxury soon.

The baby is going to come when he/she is ready. You could talk to your dr. about inducing if you are at or around 38 weeks. Try spicy foods, sex, excercise, or a change in altitude. Try taking an elevator to the top of a tall building or a hot air balloon ride. Seriously though talk to the dr. I induced with all of mine and they were fine.

Try giving your body some time to let the medicine wear off.

they say that walking, eating spicy foods, or pineapple can start contractions. however, none of them worked for me. in fact, i tried EVERYTHING and nothing worked. every body is different, and if you are up for it, give them a try. no harm, no foul. i hope you have that baby soon ;)
