There wasn't just one person who introduced rap. People have been talking rhythmically over music for a long time. The word "rap" I believe comes from the jazz poetry movement - and there are some very influential people there. Most people think of modern rap music as evolving out of the boroughs of new york - house parties and street parties with d.j.'s breaking up the beats to fire up the crowd. The MC started talking over the beats, and there was rap. I think it would be a false premise to claim that any one person introduced it. The first recognized "rap" record to be released commercially was Rapper's Delight by the SugarHill Gang. That would be your best bet if looking for an introduction of rap to a larger audience. In reality, though, the person who introduced it was the record company guy who made the decision to release the record.

As a child growing up it was called the dozens, Issac Hayes was the first person I heard use the term rap..Ike's Rap was the name of a song on one of his albums..trying to win a woman's heart. But this stuff now, it is a toss up between Curtis Blow and the Sugar Hill gang.

The first rappers were actually white guys. Hipsters, in the '50's that quoted poetry to a beat. Check it out, you'll see. As far as modern "rap" as we know it, it was street kids, guys in the neighborhood making up their own lyrics to established songs.
