Yes, it's common -but drinking water & eating food are even more common (should those be classified as "problems"). Unless it's done in such a way as to offend others (i.e., in public places), what's the problem? Masturbation is a very normal and natural thing & not a problem at all unless it gets "out of hand".

If masturbation is a problem then I should have sought help years ago. It's the most natural thing in the world and I don't consider it a problem unless you can't leave the house because you are a"dick"ted to it. Enjoy it...it's the most natural thing in the world.

Um... it's not a "world-wide problem". It's what humans just do, like eating sweets. If you eat way to many, it can cause a problem. If you masturbate way too much, you can cause problems in your relationship or something.
Don't talk about it like it's poverty or hunger or something.

Why would it be a problem? It's fun, safe, physically healthy (i.e. relatively frequent masturbation can help a man last longer during sex), emotionally healthy (relieves stress), may help sexually aroused but unmature teenagers to wait before engaging in unsafe, pyschologically-damaging sex, and helps to aid in sexual satisfaction (if you know what you like, you can, hopefully, have fulfilling experiences with your partner, too).
These all sound like good things to me!
