I'm thinking of becoming a car salesman.?

wat is better to sell, used or new? how much would a beginner make in a yr? wats the average? i want 2 make at least $150-$200k after a few yrs of experience because then i get better. money under $100k is not good money for me. I want to strive for more but i want to know if its possible as a car salesman. other wise start my own business or real estate.

i live in so. cal. near LA and i read other answers saying that some make $500 commission. that to me is nothing because i thought it was around 20% commission of the car you sell.

A lot depends on the area you live in, and if you have an established clientele base you can pull from for possibles sales' leads.
Commission is traditionally higher on used cars, as there is more play in the mark up. I sincerely doubt you could make that kind of money in just a couple years, but you never know!
Are you experienced in sales? How do you relate to people? Are you a disciplined worker that will do the research necessary to be successful?

Are you leaving your options open? I might have something a little easier and a lot less stressful.. You will have the opportunity to earn the money you want, but not have to meet quotas. If you are completely sold on being a car salesmen, I do wish you luck. I just want to give you another option.

my dad has been selling cars for 19 years he is really good and sells used fords in Corvallis Oregon at the biggest ford dealership in Oregon but he make around 50000 to 80000 a year if you want the 100000 a year car job sell hummers or higher end cars but good luck either way

Anywhere from 35-50 thou a year is how much people generally make.. Unless you work at a Hummer dealership or something along that line..
