because I'm getting sick, and I was just wondering...is chicken noodle soup just supposed to comfort you? Or does it actually do something for you...?

Chicken soup has long been known to stimulate the cilia along the breathing pathway. By so doing it improves the elimination of mucous and helps to shorten colds, etc.

Chicken soup is just a comfort food. It has no actual healing properties.

its the high level of amino acids you are receiving from the breakdown of the bones in the stock, because it is a liquid it requires minimal digestion which allows your body to concentrate on fighting the pathogens not the digesting large quantities of food... have you ever seen an animal (a pet) eat when it is ill? well they dint they just ride it out and allow their body to heal.

In addition to what kerilyn said, it also keeps you hydrated which is major part of the healing process. The more liquids you drink, it helps to push out the viruii.

the vapors open your nasal passages, and the soup soothes your throat. The soup really makes your nose drip..if your congested, it opens that up good.

like protein intake it will make some recovery to dead muscle
