Not for medical research .
rats that are bred specifically for study are used because the groups are controlled and require the test subjects to be the same to have more accuracy in comparing results.I can't imagine chimps being bred like that . t's way too cruel of a life anyway.
but some research maybe for learning related studies, communication, language etc...
I like the idea of certain catagories of inmate to be used as a test subject

Chimpanzees are useful as test subjects in many research projects because physiologically and genetically, they are very close to human. For this reason, in some medical tests, the data from chimpanzees is much more reliable than data from rats or mice.
However, although they are close, they are not identical to humans, and some responses to different medications etc. can be quite different.
I agree that using criminals (or even paid volunteers) would be preferable to using chimpanzees in many medical experiments. I think it should be much easier to get permission to do human research than it is, especially if the subjects are either aware of the potential risks, or, even better, if they have been designated as experimental subjects as a criminal punishment.
The experiments could be a sentence themselves (preferable to a death sentence - at least it would give some data and use to science), or as a means to reduce a sentence by serving humanity in general.
I'm sure there would be line-ups for some experiments (i.e. the effects of medical marijauna).

Ok brother - a 7 year old question... I found your posted question when searching for a thought that "popped" into my mind. In regard to your Chimp question - I have yet to find any information to suggest that it is not possible. I'll start with this reality - to clone a mammoth we would have to use an elephant egg as a donor - and they are different species. The human chimp relationship is similar. I haven't found anything to suggest that the cell membrane, or other sub cellular structure characteristics vary between us and them. So this brings up the idea you have - why not just remove the nucleus of a chimp embryonic cell and insert a human nucleus? I will be using some free time in the next couple days to find out more specifics on this - it is an interesting idea, and I wonder if anyone else in this field has already tried - but again I haven't discovered any published research on this specific subject. Have you found anything? Keep on processing!

I myself love animals and do not believe that chimpanzees should be used in any experiments or scientific research. I am sure there are other non harmful ways to test products besides this. I always buy products that are not tested on animals. I also usually try to buy products that are also environmentally friendly as well.

This is life, anything can happen, oh and in the future there will be a meteor shower, but they wont be meteors, they will be hard shelled cacoons with slime all over it, after an hour crab looking creatures will come out and dig into people's skins and go for the brain, the crabs will then eat the brain because it has a lot of proteins in it, the human population will then decrease by 30%

Not unless it has been tested on mice first and is deemed totally and completely safe to mice so it will do no harm to the chimpanzee at all in all likelihood.

I don't think so. I see that they are similar to humans but some things are not the same. We don't catch the same illnesses. I am against animal cruelty.

They could star culling the psychopaths out of the population and use them. " Should "; perhaps not, but we need to for now. There is no way to justify it other than, " need ".
