It's nothing extravagant: just a jazz cd. And I have gifts picked out for his wife who is the office manager, and for my therapist who is out of the same office. They're super-nice people and I would like to show my appreciation, but only if it's appropriate. What do you think?

Well, of course I do!
But is it appropriate?

I never thought about the legal ramifications; we are in the state of Florida.

It is a kind gesture, however, the law in the state of Missouri does not allow social interaction between mental health professionals and their clients for 5yrs after their last "treatment". So you maybe putting your beloved counselor in jeopardy if you aren't careful about how you give him the gift. But his wife is fair game for Christmas so long as she has never given you any counseling(professionally for the last five yrs, again) ;) give them all to his wife and whisper to her who each one is for.... let her distribute them.

I think it is a very kind gesture as long as the present isn't inappropriate in any way and the person your giving it too won't get any wrong ideas about it. I know people who give presents to thier bus drivers, mail men, so why not.

As long as they are token gifts, no more extravagant than a CD, it should be OK.
