there is alot of variability in download speeds and some of it is dependent on the site you are going to. You should probably have your phone company check your line as well to be sure there isn't any noise in the line.

tweak your systen to make certain you're getting the most out of dsl

you should scan your system for viruses and adware/spyware while in the safe mode everytime before logging on to the net.

why the safe mode? your system files might have adware/spyware and scanning after windows has loaded won't be able to remove them.

to get the safe mode repeatedly hit F8 before windows loads when you first turn on your computer. when you see a black screen with several options select safe mode. then run your scanners

if you have windows xp hold down the windows key and press R key to bring up the run box. type in there chkdsk /f to fix any errors your hard drive might have. then run disk defragmenter in the system tools folder. this will speed it even faster.

defrag will not run all the way through if there are errors on your drive.

Call your ISP. This is always an ISP issue where speed is concerned.

ISPs are now starting to throttle download speeds due to the amount of bandwidth it uses and the fact that they don't want you over using their systems (Despite the fact they give you a fast connection to download with - stupid isn't it!)

Call them.

If you are able to, start up Windows in safe mode (as your pc is booting up, tap the F8 key). If you notice a drastic improvement, run a spyware scan.

You can defrag and disk clean to see if it helps, don't keep large backups saved on your hard-disk, that takes time to sort through.

it might be because of your firewall try to see what your firewall is tracking and try to allow it to transfer if you can :)
