I'm Saudi & i'm planning to study in the US, do i need to lie about my true Nationality in order 2 prevent some reactions towards my country (U know that idiot named Bin Laden and his cowards screwed it up between us Saudis and Americans).

I really respect American people and like your lifestyle, beliefs and all, I'm like most of the Saudis we hate Islamic extremists and we admit that those airheads don't represent us.

Do I need to lie about my true nationality? and why?

thanks in advance!

Don't lie. When the lie is discovered that will make things much worse for you.

Tell the truth. Your student visa application may be denied but at least you won't be arrested for being in the country illegally -- prison is no fun.

Thank you for posting this. Not only is the post itself important but it's also interesting that several answerers are happy to dismiss this rhetoric as just 'silly religion'. There is nothing religious about what Al-Rashudi is saying. He clearly says: 'By Allah, we will not be satisfied EVEN IF ALL THE JEWS ARE KILLED.' And yes, I've capitalised that part because some people don't seem to have actually read it! What is wrong with people? As the poster rightly says - imagine if a Jew or Israeli were to say something like that!!! There would be an uproar - yet a Saudi gets to say it and nobody gives a damn! And just to note: there is no 'holocaust' happening in Gaza. The number of Palestinian Arabs is INCREASING. That does not and cannot happen during genocide. Also, Al-Rashudi is a Holocaust denier. Sixty Jews did not die - SIX MILLION Jews did at the hands of the Nazis. And millions of non Jews perished also. Have a star for this post. AVICENNA - congrats for managing to ENTIRELY miss the point. The bible was written THOUSANDS of years ago. The comments made by this Saudi Professor were made TODAY. As in NOW.

No, you ought not to lie about your nationality. But you will probably have to be very patient and explain to some (ignorant) people that most Saudis do not agree with Islamic extremists like Usama bin Laden.
There are some people in the US who will make crude jokes about you and the Middle East; please just try to ignore them; they do not represent most of us.
Most Americans are curious about people from overseas. You will probably be asked many questions about life in Saudi Arabia, about Islam, and about how Saudis view the US.
Thank you for understanding that not all Americans view Islam as the enemy, and that our culture is not just one of corruption and hate. Those of us who have traveled the world understand that most people are kind and generous, regardless of religion or culture.
If I was to meet you, I would say: Welcome to the USA! I hope you have the chance to travel all over my beautiful country, see the sights and meet all the good people.

I'd say it very much depends. If you're attending an open-minded school of sophisticated people, I wouldn't worry about a thing. Most folks know even OBL's family have disowned him. If, however, you find yourself in a place of "colloquial" individuals (rednecks, morons, religious nuts, etc.) then you may want to say your from someplace else. They tend to paint folks with a broad brush (treat them all the same).

If you're among a really cool crowd, tell everyone your actually a North Korean spy posing as an Iranian spy after nuclear secrets by posing as a student from Saudi Arabia. Keep them guessing!

No, you don't need to lie about your nationality. Not at all!!!!

We have a good relationship with Saudi Arabia, and many Americans are very curious and interested to know more about your country.

Well, no matter what you say, you will face some prejudice from the ignorant people you encounter. I would much rather you be honest and maintain your personal integrity than hide behind a lie. I respect honesty. I hope if you come to the United States, you encounter many open minded people who welcome you and make your studies a wonderful experience.

No. There are a few idiots in the US who think badly about Saudis, but most people know better. I spent five delightful years in your country, and I definitely know better. So, get that visa, and come on over, and see how the other half lives. Salaam 'leikum. (Write me via avatar if you need specific info about how to get along over here.)

I don't think coming into the United States on a lie would be the wise thing to do. We have a good reason to question people from the middle east.

I'm sorry you feel that way,but your nationality will be obvious. It would be like an African American trying to hide he's black, Don't lie.. Just plan on getting your education, you have enough to worrry about.

Lying is never good. I would hope that people wouldn't pass judgment on you just because of what a few dumbasses did in your country. I would hope that people would take you for who you are and how you are. Just be yourself and if someone doesn't like you because of it, then screw them. There are a million others out there who will love you. Good luck and God bless!
