The argument against stem cell research is as silly as not eating eggs because they might become chickens. Or not masturbating because good sperm is going to waste. It is an idiotic argument made by religious know nothings.
From a scientific view point stem cell research is a must.
Police shootings occur seldom and they sometimes do make mistakes. But one has nothing to do with the other.

You have proposed a very perplexing question but a good one.
In fact the subject is Abortions. The finalizing of an unwanted pregnancy or birth. This is not to say that the woman having this fetus does not love children or one of her own, but maybe they are not capable or there are defective problems that will produce a child that is miserable from multiple birth defects, or the woman was raped. These are the issues that need to be understoon first. The stem cell research I believe comes from these abortion clinics where the woman has had this act performed and they use the cells to research and invent ways of curing disease in all mankind. This may not be possible for all but maybe for some. These fetus that they are taking have not had the life of mankind. They are an embryo at best, and this is not murder, for the 10 commandments is what all these religions are basing their protests on. They need to read in the dead sea scrolls a little more. God breathed into man a living soul. That means that they have not developed to that stage as of yet. Not to say that this act is right or wrong, but it is a survival issue. And it is up to mankind for he/she has been given a free will. If there are downs to it now, why did they promote it when the Church was in fact signed with Hitler during WW11 and sanctified the murder of 6 million living people with breathing souls. The question is morality and religious beliefs. In law enforcement there is very little time for morals it is more like war, and we tend to forget ourselves when this happens and especiallly with guns. That is why we should not have them.

It is now becoming common knowledge that embryonic stem cells are being routinely incinerated periodically instead of being used in research because of prohibition.
Now that it is widely known, the back up rationale was that allowing embryonic stem cell research might encourage the taking of viable embryos notwithstanding the presence of many embryonic cells being incinerated. In other words there is no guarantee.
Perhaps this phenomenon is a question of people committing themselves to an issue too soon without in depth analysis, and now that this position is getting more and more untenable, they were not brave enough to say "I was wrong"?

The opponents of stem cell research have so clouded the question that it's almost impossible to sort truth from fiction.
The question - Should it be legal to take t-cells from petrie dish embryos for research or must they be discarded because the have the slightness glimmer of life?
Answer - Of course, if you're going to trash them, it is better to use a part of them for research.

I am not exactly sure what the argument is disagreement is, but I believe it would be more in the line of people conceiving for the purpose of being paid for their fetus stem cells.
The answer to your next question involves the law, so can't answer that because I don't know the answer.
