Of the more adult themed anime; Akira is seen as the definitive masterpiece, 'Perfect Blue' & 'Ghost in the Shell' are also very good. 'Paranoia Agent' and 'OEDO 808' are also good series, made for tv and now available on DVD.

totoro is a cute movie and kiki's delivery service is good too. actually all of the collection that is in studio ghibli is good. i have the whole collection and although they are old animations...they sure are good.

'Millenium Actress" got an Oscar, though the plot may be abit confusing.
"Metropolis". One does not speak of Osamu's faults.
