Why when I say no dom people take offence?
like tonight, I got a text fro a friend asking me to have her pet when her kids come on the 17th
I'm keeping in mind that a member of the house doesn't like animals so I text back and said that this person wouldn't like it so she gets funny and won't let the kids come now

Doesn't sound like much of a friend if they only want you to do them favours.

Some people get used to assuming someone will always be at their beck and call all the time. Hearing No from a Yes person throws them, it doesn't fit in their plans.
Some friends of mine usually travel up to England at Christmas and they have a young dog which they simply cannot afford to put up in a kennel for the two weeks they are away. Turns out I'm their only reliable alternative and I never manage to say no. Last Christmas they had a car accident on their way to the airport on the return leg and nearly died. Two weeks became a month and I nearly ended up with a dog I didn't want.
Favours are greater than we realize, both when we need them and when we grant them. Remember to be grateful for even the smallest ones, because they don't have to be granted. They just usually are.

i feel like your friend should realize that a)you have no pets B)theres probably a reason that you don't C) its pretty rude to assume you would be open to this they should have thought about the pet earlier as far as not letting the kids come sounds like they are bit of a kid themself and it probably never crossed the kids minds about bringing the pet let the friend pout it'll do them some good and who knows maybe you'll see how good of a person they really are

if she's getting all huffy about this then she's not a nice mate...you said no because you put someone Else's feelings first....that was nice of you...thing is she's cutting her nose off to spite her face by not allowing the kids there, she's going to spoil things for them....and she's trying to make you feel like it's your fault....don't feel guilty....she could always ask someone else....

well...if it is a first favor...hhhmmm...maybe,grant her that affectionate "yes" but you have to talk to her about your concerns too...and so next time, she may have thoughts of accepting your respectable "no"...sometimes,explanation and your attitudes counts most for them to understand...that's why text messages sometimes misinterpreted...better to see somebody...
