Most youmg people seem to use this term. Is it due to bad teaching of grammar or is it a peer group thing such as the use of 'he went like., meaning he said and 'f' used for 'th' as for instance I fink or fings are getting worse?

I know how irritating this seems. To me too. The only reason that seems feasible is that the language and how it's used are constantly changing. The way we speak English now would be nearly unrecognizable to people living 400 years ago. Phrases that were all the rage in my teens are now hopelessly out of date and the pronunciation of some common words has changed in the last 10 years. As grating as it sounds, "bored of" is probably a part of the river of language changing its course as it often does. If you want some entertaining information on words and how they've changed try www.word-detective.com. It really broadened my view of language and made it easier to live with the occasional ear twisters like "bored of".

Hmm. Well, I for one did not think it was 'wrong'. I thought you could say either/or.

It could be something to do with accent and dialect. Different places may use different grammatical rules which, although technically this shouldnt happen, does. Where I am from (Yorkshire) both are acceptable and common in conversation. When I asked my Dad about this question, he too was not aware of the grammatical 'incorrectness' of 'bored of'. It may even be a difference between American English and British English.

To say it is 'wrong' however is being prescriptive which is wrong in itself. Language is constantly changing and evolving and nobody talks the same. Whilst I admit, it may be annoying, its just how language works. Its like the use of the word 'whom'. Even though you *should* use it, not many people in today's societies do. Its just how things have altered throughout the years.
